Personal statement by site creator Dan Bromley

Permaculture is all-inclusive so as time goes by it is hoped that more people than just me will get involved with this website to diversify and increase it's content.  But for now here is a little bit of my background and hopes for the future.

I was born in South-East England where I lived permanently until my early twenties. At the University of Greenwich I studied Human Geography specialising in responsible tourism, sustainable development and European economic development. Following this I started what I now call my gap-decade by heading to the La Plagne ski area in the French Alps for a winter season. It was there that I caught the mountain bug and continued to do further seasons in Colorado, Les Gets in France, and British Columbia and Alberta in Canada. Between these seasons I've had a variety of working experiences including roles in a carbon-offsetting company and an electric car retailer (both in London), as well as semi-voluntary work in an eco-village and on a small farm in Canada.

In 2007, after my previous taster of the area in Les Gets, I decided that Morzine was the perfect place to settle on a more permanent basis, due to it's abundant winter and summer activities, thriving year-round community & economy, and of course it's diverse, seasonally distinct natural and cultural beauty.

Since I've lived here I've gained valuable knowledge of the area and it's outdoor lifestyle through jobs with chalet companies, airport transfers, building and property services and in entertainment/nightlife, as well as the obligatory extensive exploration by snowboard and mountain bike.

In autumn 2010, I decided to get a deeper understanding of the vast world of sustainability and moved back to England to study a year long practical sustainability course focussing on permaculture design.

So it is upon this foundation of experience and passion towards environmental sustainability and mountain resort living that I have created this website to provide useful information to visitors and residents of Morzine and surrounding areas. The overall aim is to preserve existing natural beauty and cultural traditions whilst improving all areas of environmental and social sustainability.
